Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Thirty eight years.
What is your primary product or service?
Excellent dentistry and peace of mind.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I served four years in the Navy during the Vietnam era. I thought Navy dentists provided a superlative service and had a noble profession. After my Navy service, I enrolled in the pre-dental program in college and obtained a degree in Biology, then attended the University of Texas Dental School and became a dentist. It was so much the right choice for me on all levels, which I have come to appreciate after all these years of continuing study, practice and teaching. I love meeting new friends and love being privileged to be able to do something for my friends that truly improves their lives. Even though dentistry is something you don't see or think about very much, whenever you do, you feel confident and happy you got my genuinely quality craftsmanship that has a good chance of lasting you for the rest of your life. That's my goal.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Focus on the health benefits of dentistry. One of my very favorite procedures is to do direct bonding on front teeth that match natural teeth perfectly. Even so, I deliberately de-emphasize "Creating Smiles" and "Cosmetic Dentistry." My department is teeth and the health of your mouth. I do a superb job which affects your smile, how it looks, but that is for you to decide, whether to smile about it or not. I have a deliberately small practice and take whatever time is required to get things really right in your eyes. My procedures are quiet and relaxed, never rushed. It's a friendly atmosphere.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have only one practice and would never expand to start other offices. I'm too hands-on and can't deliver on my promise of genuine excellent dentistry if I divided my time with running another practice.
